Elena passed 100th-day mark a week ago (11/13). It was once an important date in Chinese tradition when newborn mortality was very high. Supposedly we should invite family and friends over to celebrate her health; there would be lots of food and some red eggs. Instead, we just had ramen (noodle = longevity) for celebration.
Elena is growing fast. She sleeps better, stays awake longer and she is more alert about her surroundings. Her favorite things these days include lying down on the mat cooing at the hanging toys, or practicing standing with mom an dad. Elena recognizes the faces of her favorite people - mom, dad and big sister Ava. She will flash her beautiful smiles at us whenever she sees us. She's a little shy in front of strangers, prefers being held by mom and dad. She does warm up to the new people fairly quickly though. When the grandmom and granddad Kay were in town to visit, she would let them to play with her starting Day 2. Elena also hugely impressed her grandparents by almost turning over, at age of 2.5 month.
We are trying to get Elena to use bottles so the mom can get a break once a while. It hasn't gone very smoothly. Somehow she knew our plan and decided not to go along with it. She would be playful at first, twirling the bottle nipple in her mouth for a bit, next thing you know, she would cry loudly in protest - "give me the real thing!" We're a little frustrated but hopeful that it will pass soon.
